Back in the Day...But What about Today and Moving Forward?

I’ve been catching bits of the Glastonbury coverage on TV which is not the usual backdrop for health and wellness inspiration. But something struck me. Watching some of the iconic artists from years ago perform again, I couldn’t help noticing how easily we link music, memories, and milestones in life.
It’s something I often hear when people talk about their health too:
“Back in the day, I had so much more energy.”
“Back then, I didn’t have to think about what I ate.”
“Back in the day, I just bounced back"
It’s completely natural to look back. But there’s a difference between reflection and getting stuck. The past can be a lovely place to visit but not somewhere to dwell. What often holds us back from making progress now isn’t just the passing of time. It’s the stories we’ve started to believe about what’s possible. These are what we refer to as limiting beliefs.
A limiting belief is a thought or assumption you’ve come to accept as truth, even if it’s holding you back from making positive change.
Limiting beliefs like:
“I’m too old to change.”
“I’ve tried before and it didn’t work.”
“This is just how things are now.”
These thoughts can quietly shape our choices, and over time, they settle in. We get comfortable in the familiar, even if it’s not serving us. But here’s something to consider, what if it’s not your body that’s holding you back but your mindset? You don’t need to become who you were “back in the day", you just need to believe in who you can be now. Forward momentum doesn’t require perfection, just intention with small, consistent steps. A fresh perspective and a little support along the way.
So let me ask you:
What belief might you be ready to challenge?
Where might you be stuck in an old story?
What would moving forward look like for you?
Nostalgia has its place. But your today and future deserves your attention too.
